Kristen Olson graduated from Minnehaha Academy, and the University of St. Thomas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting.
Kristen is in a family of Plumbers, Pipefitters and Mechanical Engineers. At 16 she started working part-time at Metropolitan Mechanical Contractors and it led to 17-year career at the company. She enjoyed working for MMC and eventually became the Controller. In 2010 Kristen decided that she wanted to have a business of her own.
Her father Tom Nelson was an owner and President of Metropolitan Mechanical for many years, therefore Kristen went to him for advice on purchasing a company. Major Mechanical was appealing as it is a specialized company in the multi-housing industry. Together they discussed the potential growing market of multi-housing construction and thought Major would be a great fit.
Kristen purchased the company on April 1, 2011. With a stroke of luck her prediction was correct about the multi-housing boom. Major Mechanical grew from an average revenue in 2009 and 2010 of $ 8.6 million, to over $ 44 million in revenues in 2016.
Thanks to the opportunity provided by several Developers and General Contractors, Major Mechanical has been an unbelievable success story. Kristen could have never imagined how great the company would become. All of the employees at Major work very hard and have become a fantastic team both in the office and in the field.
Kristen is motivated to keep improving Major Mechanical. Major is a small company with a big heart. It has been a very busy 6 years, and improving systems and procedures in the office and the field will be Kristen’s dedication and goal for many years to come.
Major Mechanical is a member of the Association of Women in Construction (AWC), and Kristen sits on the Board of Directors for the Twin City Pipe Trades Health and Welfare Fund.
